2025 TRAVEL TRENDS: A NEW JOURNEY

As we enter 2025, travel continues to evolve, reflecting the changing desires of modern travellers. Insights from Hilton’s trends report and PoB Hotels’ 2025 Whitepaper highlight key shifts in priorities, from wellness and sustainability to slow travel and immersive experiences.

Wellness Takes Centre Stage

Travel is no longer just about exploration; it’s about restoration. Wellness is now a primary motivator for luxury getaways, with 78% of travellers prioritising rest and relaxation. Spa treatments, outdoor activities, and wellness retreats rank highly, with 61% seeking spa treatments and 45% favouring outdoor pursuits such as hiking and cycling.

Sleep tourism has also gained momentum, with 70% of luxury travellers favouring hotels that offer sleep-centric amenities such as wellness rooms. Over a quarter of travellers plan to book spa treatments specifically designed to improve sleep.

Embracing Slow and Quiet Travel

In a fast-paced world, travellers are increasingly looking to slow down. Slow travel, which encourages longer stays and deeper immersion in destinations, is becoming more popular, with 59% of travellers preferring journeys that allow them to connect more meaningfully with their surroundings.

At the same time, “quiet travel” is gaining traction, with two in five travellers seeking hidden gems instead of crowded tourist hotspots. This reflects a growing desire for tranquillity, authenticity, and under-the-radar destinations.

Sustainability Matters

Sustainability is no longer a bonus; it’s becoming an expectation. Nearly 38% of travellers actively seek eco-friendly options, while almost half are more likely to book hotels that demonstrate sustainable practices. Locally sourced food is also a key priority, with 70% considering it essential to their stay.

This emphasis on sustainability highlights a growing awareness of travel’s environmental impact and a stronger desire to make responsible choices.

Shifting Travel Trends in 2025

  • Spacious Stays: 75% of luxury travellers prefer larger, more comfortable bedrooms.
  • Domestic Travel Boom: Over half of UK travellers took three or more domestic breaks last year.
  • Service Excellence: 69% of travellers consider exceptional service non-negotiable.
  • Couple-Centric Trips: 81% plan trips with their partner, up from 76% the previous year.

What These Trends Mean for Travel in 2025

Travel in 2025 is becoming more intentional and meaningful. Travellers are seeking deeper connections with themselves, nature, and local cultures, while prioritising wellness, sustainability, authenticity, and comfort.

As these trends continue to shape the industry, 2025 promises a future where experiences matter more than ever, blending luxury with purpose.
